Your computer cannot start Textile Professor™

We are sorry you are having problems with getting your computer to start the Textile Professor™ CD. Please try the following:
  • If your computer automatically plays music CDs when you insert them, it should open Textile Professor™ software when you insert the CD into your CD drive. However, if your computer is not set to "autorun” CDs, it will not open automatically. No other software is required.


  • Without changing some of the settings on your computer, the quickest way to open the Textile Professor™ is for you to copy the following link into your Internet Explorer. "D" is the letter name of your CD drive.

  • Or, you can hit the start button, then choose run, and in the “run” window paste the link given above


  • if your computer uses Windows Vista it will not open the Textile Professor™ CD automatically. Please click the following to for assistance:



  • If your computer gives you a message about ActiveX controls and requesting you to allow active content, it’s ok to approve this for Textile Professor™. That’s just a security setting on some computers intended to prevent unsafe active content from unreliable website or CDs running on it.


  • If the CD doesn’t run on your computer, please try it on a computer in your campus computer lab and ask for assistance. Bring this e-mail along as a guide for the IT expert.


  • We have had a few students who have had difficulty running the software but the above has usually worked for them. Early on, before we developed these suggestions, a few students returned the CD to us for replacement, but in every case the CD was fine. Thus, it is highly unlikely the CD is defective and that a replacement would solve your problem; the problem is likely some interference from the particular settings of the computer you are using, which are unique to every computer and thus difficult to anticipate or diagnose.
